Carver Celebration 2011

On April 9, 2011, the Carver Center Foundationhosted its seventh annual gala, “Carver Celebration” – a unique opportunity to sample the talents of our students while providing financial support for the Carver Center Foundation! “Carver Celebration” is a great venue for our families, friends, and the public at large to become better acquainted with Carver Center’s unique curriculum, culture, and nationally recognized programs.

Throughout the evening, students representing every Prime shared their passions through demonstrations, performances, and activities. There was live student performances including song, dance, poetry reading, music, acting, and sculpting. Also featured were demonstrations and interactive events from carpentry, engineering, information technology, and cosmetology. And that’s not all. There was exceptional food prepared by culinary students working side by side with local restaurant chefs and caterers including: Bon Appetit Chef Thomas Brown, Carver Center Pro Start Team, Carver Center’s Own Chef Aaron Joseph, Chef’s Expressions Chef John Walsh, Kooper’s Tavern & Slainte Irish Pub Chef Bill Crouse, Lebanese Taverna-Harbor East Chef Rachid Eido & GM Josh Halbedel, Pierpoint Chef Nancy Longo, Desserts Chef Richard Karoll, Carver Dessert Team and Spro Coffee Jay Caragy.

Also, there was a large silent auction of merchandise and services provided by Maryland businesses, and artwork donated for sale by Carver Center students, faculty and alumni. Featured items included: Restaurants Milton Inn, Tark's, Thai Landing, Sullivan's Steakhouse, Center Club with complete dinner and drinks for 4, Bonefish with complete dinner and drinks for 8. Catering Panache Fine Catering with catered dinner for 6, Classic to Go with Brunch 10, perfect for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day. Vacations including a week in August at Captiva Island's Southseas Resort and a week at the Marriott Aruba Surf Club with a 2 bedroom complete villa, perfect for TWO couples or a family of up to 8 people! Artwork Work of Art by Bravo TV's winning artist and Carver Alumni Abdi Farah, and original artwork by Carver students and alumni. Entertainment PRS Tremonti SE singlecut model Guitar. The Foundation supports all areas of Carver Center by providing scholarships, capital grants, and operational supplements from monies raised from “Carver Celebration.” Examples of past Foundation contributions include grant fulfillment for seminars; state, regional, and national competitions for business, theatre, culinary, dance and visual arts, and clubs such as mock trial and engineering. Monies have provided software and supplies for Carver Center’s academics and primes including state of the art technology for business, science, math, physics lab and visual arts, as well as athletic equipment and scholarships for sculpture programs. Foundation funding also provides parent education programs such as the premiering of the film Race to Nowhere, and annual funding for graduating seniors’ scholarships, $5000 offered yearly for faculty professional development, PTSA testing, after prom party, family handbook and directory, teacher appreciation brunch, back-to-school night, new student registration, ice cream social, senior carnations and the ongoing operation of Foundation communications via the Foundation Website and e-newsletters.

With your generous support through contributions of time, goods and services, and money, the “Carver Celebration” enables the Foundation to enrich the learning experiences of all Carver Center students in ever expanding ways. We thank all of you who have contributed your time, talents, goods and services, and financial support to make Celebration 2011 a huge success. With your help, we have once broken prior records and made this past Celebration our most successful ever!
